It seems fine to have a work of art reproduced in a catalogue, as a post-card or other merchandising.
All these items are in a specific category in the hierarchy of the art world. But the case is that most of the time, our relationship with art is actually with an image of it. And within this framework, could the image of the work of art become a meaningful tool for museums and curators? Is it possible to provide a complementary value to the aesthetic experience of contemplating a work of art by looking at an image of it?
At Madpixel we believe it is; we essentially create and work on images of the work of art.
Last June we were at Museum Next sharing some ideas and experiments on tackling these key issues through our project Second Canvas.
